Panchkula: Amid rising incidents of snatchings, burglaries, and vehicle thefts, local NGO Lok Sarvhitkari Society has written to the Panchkula municipal corporation mayor, commissioner, and councillors demanding the immediate installation of security gates across all sector entry and exit points.The society cited an eight-year-old resolution unanimously passed by the MC House in 2017. Under the approved agenda, the municipal corporation was tasked with funding the uniform installation of security gates across all sectors to regulate nighttime traffic, while resident welfare associations (RWAs) were to manage daily operations and maintenance.However, the NGO alleged discriminatory execution, noting that while the MC installed gates in a few areas like Sectors 15 and 19, the majority of the city—including crime-prone pockets like Sector 12—remained left out. Society members emphasised that taxpayer funds should be deployed transparently and equitably to safeguard all residents.“Residents of Sector 12 and other sectors that were left out have questioned why the benefits of an unanimously approved House resolution were extended only to selected areas. They have alleged arbitrary and discriminatory treatment and have also raised concerns regarding equality in the implementation of public decisions,” said Rakesh Aggarwal, a member of the society.
