In Lungi Ngidi’s recent endeavours in the T20 format, the slower ball has been akin to a silver bullet. The South African’s ability to execute that variation — he has an off-cutter and a leg-cutter in his locker — has been such that it has turned into his signature weapon. It garnered attention during the T20 World Cup in February and March, when the pacer finished as Proteas’ leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps in seven matches. The 30-year-old’s varied repertoire has continued to be effective for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026.

Ngidi credits Dwayne Bravo for the development of his dipping slower ball, having learnt it from the West Indian all-rounder during their stint with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018.
