CHANDIGARH: Haryanvi singer Diler Kharkiya reportedly had a narrow escape after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at his Range Rover, with a social-media post subsequently claiming responsibility for the attack and invoking names associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.According to preliminary information, Kharkiya was travelling in his SUV when the firing took place. The singer is reported to have escaped unhurt, though the vehicle’s glass was damaged in the incident.Police have taken cognisance of the firing and the purported threat posted on social media. The authenticity of the post, as well as the identity and motive of those behind the firing, was yet to be independently established. The post, which appeared after the incident, claimed that “Himanshu Sonipat, Tyshan Bishwai, Hari Boxer and Harnam Sandhu” were responsible for firing at Kharkiya’s Range Rover. It also referred to one Anil Pandit as the alleged elder brother of the persons behind the threat and claimed that he had earlier called the singer and warned him.The post further threatened that if Kharkiya did not comply with the alleged demands, “the next time” he would be shot in the chest. It also issued a warning to others who allegedly had not been responding to calls.Police are expected to verify the social-media account, establish when and where the post was uploaded, and examine whether the persons named in it have any connection with the firing.Investigators are also likely to examine CCTV footage and other electronic evidence besides recording statements of the singer and people accompanying him.The purported post’s reference to individuals allegedly linked with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has added to the seriousness of the case. However, at this stage, the claim remains unverified, and the social-media post by itself does not establish the involvement of any gang or individual in the shooting.Further details about the exact location of the firing, the number of shots fired and the weapon used were awaited.
