— Attachment Content: Education_Gets_Rs_18.docx —Education Gets Rs 18,000 Cr Push in State BudgetKelly Kislaya | TNNRanchi: The state government has proposed setting up several new schools, colleges and universities in 2026–27, as announced in the budget tabled by Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore on Tuesday.Over Rs 18,000 crore has been allocated for the education sector, including Rs 16,251.43 crore for primary and secondary education and Rs 2,564.45 crore for higher and technical education. The budget proposes five new girls’ residential schools — two in Dhanbad and one each in Palamu, Latehar and Garhwa. In addition, 100 new CM Schools of Excellence will be established. An Adarsh Vidyalaya exclusively for dependants of martyrs in the state is also planned.As part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a state-centric syllabus and textbooks for Classes I and II have been prepared and will be distributed in 2026–27. Around 40,000 teachers have been trained at the JCERT level under the NEP framework.Construction of three new residential schools on the lines of Netarhat School is under way in Dumka, Chaibasa and Bokaro.To promote higher education, the government has proposed establishing Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Chatra district. Also, new colleges will be set up in remote areas of the state focused on job-oriented courses. In the first phase, 12 new colleges will be set up across seven districts.The budget also proposes developing the Jharkhand Institute of Technology (JhIT) on the lines of IITs and NITs under the J-PRAGATI (Jharkhand Polytechnic Revamping for Advanced Graduate and Innovation-led Technical Institution) scheme.Under the UTTHAN (Uplifting of Tribal and Tana Bhagat Holistic Advancement and Nurturing) scheme, 60 students from primitive tribal groups and dependants of Tana Bhagats will be provided a three-year diploma course in Police Administration and Integrated Security Management at Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University.A total of Rs 3,568.19 crore has also been earmarked for the Department of Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, Minority and Backward Class Welfare, with a strong focus on education.Under the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Pardeshiye Chhatravriti Yojana, financial assistance will now be extended to students from Scheduled Caste, minority and backward class communities from 2026–27. Previously, the scholarship was limited to Scheduled Tribe students. While 24 students were selected in 2025–26, the number has been increased to 50 for the coming financial year. The scheme enables selected students to pursue Master’s or MPhil programmes at universities in the UK and Northern Ireland.An allocation of Rs 1,216 crore has been made for various scholarship schemes for SC, ST, minority and backward class students. Additionally, Rs 136 crore has been earmarked for distribution of bicycles to students in government schools to reduce dropout rates.The budget also proposes setting up Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University in Jamshedpur to promote the social and economic empowerment of tribal communities, along with research and preservation of tribal culture.Ends
