Rajkot: A 24-year-old newly recruited police constable was killed after his scooter was hit by a speeding auto-rickshaw while he was on his way to a training session at the Mavdi police headquarters on Tuesday.The deceased, Keyur Ramani, was posted at Rajkot Rural police station. The accident occurred near R World Cinema on Jawahar Road around 5am.Keyur was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed during treatment.Pradhyuman Nagar police station sources said Ramani was undergoing training at the Mavdi police headquarters for the past four months and was travelling there as part of his daily routine.Keyur was the youngest among two brothers and a sister. His father runs a vegetable stall near Jubilee Garden and is the family’s primary breadwinner.Pradhyuman Nagar police have registered a case of causing death by negligence and launched a search for the absconding auto-rickshaw driver. Police are collecting CCTV footage and other evidence from the area to trace the accused.
