Hyderabad: A newborn baby died during delivery at the Kamareddy govt hospital on Saturday, triggering a protest by the family, who alleged that doctors delayed a caesarean section despite repeated requests.The woman, identified as Swaroopa from Ekkapalli Thanda in Kamareddy district, was brought to the govt hospital around 9am on Friday for delivery. After examining her, doctors reportedly told the family that there were chances of a normal delivery and advised them to wait for labour pains.According to the family, Swaroopa’s pain increased and they repeatedly requested doctors to perform a C-section. However, the doctors allegedly continued to wait for a normal delivery.As a normal delivery did not take place, doctors performed a caesarean section on Saturday. By then, the baby had died in the womb, the family alleged.The relatives claimed that the baby could have been saved had the surgery been performed soon after Swaroopa was admitted. Alleging medical negligence and failure to conduct the delivery in time, they staged a protest outside the hospital.According to inspector B Narahari, tension prevailed for some time as the victim’s family members confronted the hospital management over the baby’s death. After receiving a complaint from the family, police registered a case against the hospital management under Section 106(1) of the IPC.The baby’s body was sent for an autopsy and was later handed over to the family. Police said an investigation was underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death and verify the allegations of medical negligence.
