Prayagraj: State govt is setting up five Automatic Weather Stations and 34 Automatic Rain Gauge stations across Pratapgarh district to ensure weather-related information is made available in a timely manner.“Through these modern stations, critical data like temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and atmospheric pressure are captured in real time. This system enables continuous weather monitoring, allowing the administration to take necessary precautionary measures in a timely manner in the event of any potential natural disaster or significant weather shift,” said district magistrate, Pratapgarh, Abhishek Pandey. This infrastructure is expected to prove immensely beneficial for farmers, public, healthcare services and disaster management operations.“It will provide significant assistance to farmers in making weather-informed decisions regarding their agricultural activities. It will enable the authorities to issue advance warnings to the public in the event of heavy rainfall, storms or other adverse weather conditions,” he said.Data regarding soil moisture and humidity provided by the AWS stations helps govt identify specific regions where drought-like conditions are beginning to emerge. Based on this information, agricultural relief packages or alternative water supply arrangements can be implemented in a timely manner. In Pratapgarh, Automatic Weather Stations are being installed in five tehsils — Sadar, Kunda, Lalganj, Patti and Raniganj.Additionally, 34 Automatic Rain Gauges are also being installed across various development blocks and other strategic locations throughout the district. To ensure effective outcomes, the DM has appealed to the public to regularly obtain updated weather-related information from these centres and to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the administration in the event of a disaster or adverse weather conditions. He also urged people to disregard rumours and to rely solely on official information. The DM stated that real-time data regarding weather and rainfall is being made available on the website of the govt of Uttar Pradesh, thereby enabling the public to access this information directly. The DM affirmed that the district administration is working with unwavering commitment toward public interest and safety, and that the disaster management framework is being further strengthened.
