Lucknow: Tuberculosis diagnosis and detection of drug resistance in Uttar Pradesh could become faster and more accurate with SGPGIMS setting up the state’s first Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) facility dedicated to TB. Prof Richa Mishra, faculty in microbiology, said the NGS unit has been equipped with an Illumina MiSeq i100plus sequencing platform procured through corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.SGPGIMS also conducted its first hands-on NGS workshop titled “From Sequence to Solution: NGS for precision TB Diagnostics.” The technology can potentially reduce the time taken to identify drug-resistance patterns from weeks to days, aiding clinicians in treatment planning.
