Hassan: DGP (prison and correctional services) Alok Kumar Wednesday said a proposal had been submitted to govt to construct a new prison in Hassan to overcome a shortage of space.Speaking to reporters after inspecting Hassan District Prison, Alok Kumar said the facility, designed to accommodate 250 inmates, currently houses 334 prisoners. He said he visited the prison to assess its actual conditions. Hassan SP Shubhanvita and prison officials were present during the visit.Alok Kumar said certain gangs and 10 accused in the Manjesh murder case were lodged in Hassan prison. He alleged that some of them had created disturbances inside the facility and confirmed that they were being shifted to Mysuru prison.
