Kanpur: Repair work on the new Ganga bridge at Jajmau on the Lucknow route will begin on June 26 and continue for three days to strengthen the bridge.During this period, movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge will be restricted during the daytime. Consequently, a diversion plan for heavy and commercial vehicles will be implemented between 10pm and 8am on June 26, 27 and 28.The administration has prepared a detailed plan to reroute vehicles through alternative routes.Vehicles travelling from Etawah and Agra towards Lucknow will be diverted via Ramadevi to National Highway-19 (Prayagraj highway). From there, they will proceed towards Lucknow via the Sumerpur turn and the Fatehpur route through the Unnao-Lalganj highway.Heavy vehicles coming from Mahoba and Hamirpur will be diverted through Ghatampur, Jahanabad, Bakewar and the Buxar turn on NH-19. Some vehicles will also be rerouted via the Anupur turn, Baripal station route and the Jahanabad-Bakewar route.Vehicles coming from Kannauj will be diverted towards the Hardoi-Unnao route from the Rameshwar Dham temple cut on National Highway-34. Similarly, vehicles from Bilhaur and Chaubepur will be sent to Lucknow via the Chaubepur-Bithoor route through the Unnao-Hardoi road.Vehicles travelling from Kanpur to Lucknow will be routed via Ganga Barrage, Pahadpur, Kahwapur and Shuklaganj. Meanwhile, traffic from Lucknow to Kanpur will continue to use the old Jajmau Ganga bridge.Pankaj Yadav, project director, National Highways Authority of India, said, “There will be a diversion for three days for repairs to the Jajmau bridge. All necessary alternative arrangements have been made to ensure that people do not face inconvenience.”
