Gorakhpur: With heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, the North Eastern Railway (NER) has intensified monitoring and maintenance efforts to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations across its network, CPRO, NER, Sumit Kumar said.NER general manager Uday Borwankar is closely monitoring train movements and different rail sections from the railway’s headquarters control room in Gorakhpur. He is regularly reviewing the situation with divisional railway managers and issuing necessary instructions to maintain safe operations.Borwankar praised railway personnel for working round the clock under adverse weather conditions and directed officials and staff to accord top priority to rail safety while maintaining close coordination and vigilance.According to NER officials, continuous monitoring is underway on railway tracks, bridges, overhead equipment, signalling and telecommunication systems, stations and other critical infrastructure. Surveillance has been intensified at vulnerable locations, while dedicated teams from different departments have been kept ready for immediate response.Special monsoon patrolling teams have been deployed in waterlogged areas, and additional pumps have been arranged to facilitate drainage.Engineering, signalling, electrical and operations staff are carrying out track inspections, drainage clearance and erosion-control measures, including boulder packing, on a war footing.The railway administration has advised passengers and the public to avoid venturing onto railway tracks, bridges and other sensitive railway premises during adverse weather conditions. The officials said that passengers’ safety remains its highest priority and all efforts are being made to ensure smooth train services despite the challenging weather.
