Gorakhpur: Showcasing a year of expansion and improved performance, North Eastern Railway general manager Uday Borwankar said on Thursday that the zone recorded significant achievements in infrastructure, safety, passenger services and revenue during 2025–26.He said key new line projects, including Sahjanwa–Dohrighat (81.17 km) and Khalilabad–Bahraich (240 km), are progressing to enhance connectivity in eastern UP. Other projects like Anandnagar–Maharajganj–Ghughli and Paniyahwa–Tamkuhi Road will integrate remote regions with the rail network.In capacity augmentation, 79 km of doubling and third-line works were completed. Major projects such as Gorakhpur Cantt–Valmikinagar and Bhatni–Aunrihar are advancing steadily. NER has now become complete broad gauge, except the heritage Mailani–Nanpara section.Vande Bharat trains on Gorakhpur–Patliputra and Varanasi–Khajuraho routes, along with 10 pairs of Amrit Bharat Express, were introduced. The zone also operated 178 special trains during festive seasons and fairs.Borwankar highlighted that 58 stations are being redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Safety remained strong with zero consequential accidents, supported by 12 ROBs, 43 subways and modern signalling.Importantly, NER earned Rs 221.92 crore from scrap disposal, marking a record. Solar capacity reached 8.22 MW, with further expansion planned to save nearly Rs 15 crore annually.Employee facilities were also upgraded, including new ICU and pharmacy blocks at the Gorakhpur railway hospital.
