GURGAON: The district administration has opened a helpline for families and friends in Gurgaon trying to locate residents who may have gone missing or become uncontactable in the devastating flash floods in Nepal.People who have information about a Gurgaon resident who travelled to Nepal and has not been heard from since the disaster can contact the administration through 112, the DC camp office at 0124-2320508, or email ctmgrg@hry.nic.in.The administration has asked callers to provide the person’s name, Gurgaon address, contact number and any details about their travel or last known location, if available.The information will be shared with the agencies concerned to help trace those missing and coordinate assistance for their families.The move comes after a massive flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi river area of Nepal on August 26, causing widespread destruction across the Nepal-China border region.The flood swept away homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure, while hundreds of residents and foreign nationals remain unaccounted for. Nepal’s foreign ministry said on Friday that 538 bodies had been recovered, with many people still missing.Nepal Police said 2,381 people, including 644 foreign nationals, remained unaccounted for as of Friday. Among the missing foreigners were 178 Indian nationals.Rescue teams have so far rescued 1,545 people, but damaged roads, bridges and difficult terrain have complicated search operations.The Gurgaon administration said the helpline is intended to provide a local point of contact for families who may otherwise struggle to establish the whereabouts of their relatives.It has urged residents not to wait if they have credible information about someone from the city who has become uncontactable after the Nepal disaster.
