Nagpur: A 40-year-old homemaker had a miraculous escape when her neighbour allegedly attacked her with an iron saw while she was cleaning the courtyard of her house in Sadar. The woman suffered serious injuries on her head and both hands, but timely intervention by her husband and other relatives saved her life.The incident took place around 6 am on Monday at Jain Mandir Building in Sadar.Senior inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar of Sadar police station said the woman and the alleged assaulter, who has a history of mental illness, were involved in a tiff over parking of cycles and other trivial matters.On Monday, Varsha Vadhe was sweeping the open space in front of her house when the 55-year-old neighbour, who lives next door, struck her repeatedly on the head and hands with the iron saw. He was admitted to Regional Mental Hospital at Mankapur and was released only a month ago as part of a rehabilitation process. The man was kept on medication and had even started working as a security guard, said police.Hearing her screams, Varsha’s husband Sunil and other family members rushed out and overpowered the attacker. They immediately took the injured woman to a govt hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors described her injuries as serious but said she is out of danger.Sadar police have registered a case of attempt to murder under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on the basis of Varsha’s complaint.The accused has not been arrested so far. Officers said they are making arrangements, through a court order, to shift him once again to Regional Mental Hospital for treatment and evaluation.Police have recorded statements of family members and eyewitnesses and are collecting medical reports to complete the investigation.
