Imphal: The NEET-UG retest was conducted smoothly across Manipur on Sunday, with district administrations and security agencies ensuring that candidates, especially from the hill districts, could safely reach their examination centres.Over 8,000 candidates appeared for the examination at 14 centres across Imphal East and Imphal West districts. At two centres in Churachandpur College, Churachandpur district, 862 candidates appeared for the exam, while 201 candidates took the test at JNV Chandel Centre in Chandel district.Authorities said candidates from different communities, united by their aspirations, sat together inside the examination hall in Chandel district. One of the most significant aspects of the retest was the govt’s effort to facilitate the movement of candidates across district and community lines in a state that has witnessed prolonged ethnic conflict over the past three years.Officials said eight candidates from Noney district and 15 from Tamenglong district were transported to Imphal a day ahead of the examination because of escalating tensions in the two Naga-dominated districts.Authorities also facilitated the movement of around 20 candidates from Kangpokpi district to Churachandpur for the examination. The test concluded without any untoward incident.
