Jaipur: BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf Monday raised the cancellation issue of Neerja Modi School’s CBSE affiliation during Zero Hour in the Rajasthan Assembly, urging the state govt to intervene and get the decision withdrawn.Referring to the incident, Saraf said that on Nov 1 last year, a student of the Jaipur-based school, Amaira, allegedly died by suicide. He said investigations revealed the student was subjected to abusive remarks by fellow students and complained to her class teacher, but her complaint was allegedly ignored. “Perhaps hurt by this, the student took the extreme step,” he said.

Following the incident, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) revoked the school’s affiliation. Terming the move “illogical”, Saraf argued that the decision jeopardised the future of nearly 5,500 students studying at the institution and left their parents anxious. He maintained that action should have been taken against those directly responsible. “The school administration and the concerned class teacher should have faced legal action and an FIR should have been lodged. Instead, the entire school’s affiliation was cancelled,” he said.Saraf urged the state govt to take up the matter with CBSE and ensure that the decision is reconsidered in the larger interest of students, so that their academic future is not adversely affected.
