Prayagraj: General manager of North Central Railways (NCR) Naresh Pal Singh on Monday presented the performance and key achievements of NCR for the financial year 2025-26, reporting gains in freight loading, punctuality, infrastructure expansion, safety systems and passenger services.Singh said that NCR recorded notable progress across key functional areas during FY 2025-26. He said focused efforts in improving operational efficiency, strengthening safety systems, expanding infrastructure, enhancing freight performance and augmenting passenger amenities contributed to an overall improvement in service delivery.The GM said that in freight operations, NCR achieved its highest-ever originating loading of 20.97 million tonnes, a 12.6% increase over the previous year, generating freight revenue of Rs2,276 crore. Due to strong performance in coaching and freight sectors, total originating revenue reached Rs6,001 crore, reflecting a 4% increase over the previous year. Scrap sales generated revenue of Rs316 crore, exceeding the target by 15%.In passenger services, punctuality of mail/express trains improved to 79%, an increase of 9% over the previous year. A total of 42 new train services were introduced, including two originating trains. To enhance passenger convenience, 46 new stoppages were provided, 12 trains were extended and the frequency of two trains was increased. NCR also augmented 31 additional coaches in 14 pairs of passenger trains. It operated 470 trains as ‘train on demand’ services, completing 3,140 trips based on passenger demand. During Magh Mela 2026, 804 special trains were operated.On rolling stock upgrades, four pairs of trains were converted from ICF to LHB coaches, and six pairs from ICF to Memu rakes.On safety and infrastructure, the GM said the ‘Kavach’ system was implemented over 270km and loco trials were completed over 520 route km (RKM). Infrastructure strengthening included completion of 52.35km doubling, 55.266km third line and 27km gauge conversion. Additionally, 223km of automatic signalling and electronic interlocking at 16 stations was commissioned. For road safety, 22 level crossing gates were interlocked and 23 level crossings were eliminated.In workshops, wagon workshop, Jhansi, achieved a record out-turn of 8,350 wagons, the best in Indian Railways. Rail coach renovation workshop, Jhansi, completed maintenance of Vande Bharat train sets for the first time.Under green initiatives, Miyawaki plantation was carried out over 500sqmt. With installation of 9.05 MW rooftop solar plants, total solar capacity increased to 21.75 MW. The GM also said all recruitment processes were being conducted through a centralised computer-based test (CBT) system to ensure transparency and timeliness.
