NAVI MUMBAI: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) crossed the three-million-passenger mark on September 1, less than nine months after beginning commercial operations on December 25, 2025.The airport handled approximately 22,500 commercial flights during this period and expanded its network from 13 destinations at launch to 46 destinations, NMIA said in a press statement. It began scheduled international operations within 200 days of opening, with Abu Dhabi as its first international connection.The airport recorded an average last-bag delivery performance of 94% in August. This means the last checked-in bag was delivered to the baggage carousel within 30 minutes on 94% of flights, NMIA said.The airport is also positioning itself as a cargo hub. On Wednesday, it received an Antonov An-124 ‘Ruslan’, one of the world’s largest production cargo aircraft and a Code F wide-body freighter. The aircraft arrived from Abu Dhabi carrying about 46 tonnes of cargo.NMIA is designed to handle up to 20 million passengers annually in its first phase, with capacity eventually rising to 90 million passengers. It is also expected to handle up to 0.5 million tonnes of cargo annually.
