Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (SP) on Thursday accused the ruling BJP of misleading people by casting aspersions on the Opposition and insisted the incumbent government could be changed only through a legitimate electoral process.

In a statement, NCP (SP) national spokesperson and secretary Clyde Crasto said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue and the BJP’s defence of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar had raised doubts about the ruling party’s belief in a legitimate electoral process.

Crasto claimed the BJP was aware people would bring about a change in government through elections and was therefore trying to mislead them by targeting the Opposition parties, which have been demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls.

Incumbent government can only be changed through legitimate electoral process, he emphasised.
