Mumbai: Mumbai University (MU) has roped in the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) to review its three-year journey of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP), in an exercise that will look at whether the sweeping academic reforms have travelled beyond rule books and been put into practice in their true spirit. As part of the review, the NIEPA team is expected to visit a select number of autonomous and affiliated colleges and examine the implementation of key NEP provisions, including changes in curriculum structures, multidisciplinary learning, credit systems and programme flexibility.Meanwhile, the MU’s faculty recruitment exercise has hit yet another roadblock, with the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court restraining preparation of selection lists arising from the ongoing interviews. In an order, dated August 4, a division bench of Justices Nitin B Suryawanshi and Abasaheb D Shinde permitted the interviews to continue, but directed that “no select list shall be prepared” on their basis until further orders. The interviews are being conducted pursuant to an advertisement dated April 2, 2025, and a corrigendum issued on March 13, 2026.The court has issued notice to the respondents, returnable on August 18. The order, therefore, does not halt the interview process itself, but effectively puts the next and crucial stage of appointments, preparation and declaration of the selection list, on hold until the court considers the matter further. The MU has 152 vacant teaching posts.
