Jaisalmer: A naib tehsildar was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a water storage tank near his govt quarters in Balotra district Tuesday morning.The deceased was identified as Mangla Ram (54), naib tehsildar of Doodwa Sub-Tehsil under the Pachpadra police station area. He was a resident of Gudamalani.Police said the body was discovered when an ANM, who lived in the govt quarters opposite his residence, came to collect water from the tank. As soon as she opened the lid, she noticed the body inside and immediately informed the village sarpanch and the police. Police shifted the body to the mortuary and informed the family.According to police, the case prima facie appeared to be a suicide, although the exact cause of death was to be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination.Pachpadra SHO Babulal said police received information from villagers that the body of naib tehsildar Mangla Ram, son of Ramaram, was lying inside the water tank near his official quarters. A police team reached the spot, and Forensic Science Laboratory and Mobile Forensic teams were called to examine the scene.Police said it was still unclear how he entered or fell into the tank. His slippers were found on the ground outside the tank. Further action was to be taken after receiving a formal complaint from the family. The post-mortem report was expected to determine the exact cause of death.The deceased’s son, Ashok Kumar, said his father lived alone in the govt quarters at the Patwar Bhawan. He had last visited home during the final week of June and had not mentioned being under any work-related or personal pressure.Ashok Kumar said his father had been promoted from the post of Revenue Inspector to naib tehsildar about a year ago, and his first posting in the new position was at Doodwa Sub-Tehsil. He was survived by four sons and two daughters.
