Nagpur: Vidarbha remained in the grip of intense heat, with Nagpur recording its season’s highest maximum temperature at 43.4°C on Wednesday. The city ranked eighth hottest globally and fourth in India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in parts of Vidarbha for the next three days. Low afternoon humidity further intensified the heat. Akola topped the country at 44.2°C, followed by Amravati (44.0°C) and Wardha (43.9°C), placing Vidarbha districts among the four hottest locations nationwide, according to IMD data. This marks the fourth consecutive day that Akola has recorded the highest temperature in the country.Globally, Akola ranked fourth, while Amravati, Wardha and Nagpur stood sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, as per private climate tracker El Dorado Weather.IMD data shows most districts in the region recorded maximum temperatures above 42°C. Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Washim and Yavatmal also witnessed severe heat, while elevated minimum temperatures added to discomfort with warm nights.Despite the prevailing conditions, a heatwave has been officially recorded only in Buldhana, where the temperature departure from normal exceeded 4.5°C. With no rainfall activity reported, the harsh conditions are expected to persist. Authorities have advised residents to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours and stay hydrated.
