Nagpur: The Minority Development Department, Maharashtra, sanctioned and released Rs1.20 crore for repair and beautification works at the Nagpur Haj House, according to a govt resolution issued on February 17. The allocation was made to initiate the tender process for structural repairs, maintenance, and development of facilities, including improvement of the area in front of the building and parking arrangements.The Haj House, operational since 2012, serves as a key transit and training facility for pilgrims from the region. Every year, around 1,000 to 1,500 Haj pilgrims depart from Nagpur, using the building for temporary accommodation and pre-departure orientation. The govt noted that upkeep of the facility is essential to ensure safe and convenient arrangements for pilgrims.The sanctioned amount represents 10% of the approved project cost and was released in line with financial norms for the 2025-26 financial year. The funds were placed at the disposal of the district collector, who will act as the controlling authority, while authorised officials will oversee withdrawal and disbursement.The resolution specifies that the grant must be utilised strictly for the approved purpose within the current financial year. Public Works Department authorities will be required to submit utilisation certificates and expenditure details within the stipulated timeframe.Over the years, users of the facility have complained about crumbling infrastructure and the need for urgent repairs. Officials said the sanctioned works aim to address these long-pending issues and improve basic amenities.
