Dimapur: District administrations in Nagaland has directed their respective village councils to initiate selection process of their new members for the 2026-2031 tenure.According to an official notification issued under the directive of the govt, including a communication from the state commissioner on March 10, and a separate notification from the home departmenton March 9, the entire process must be completed before April 15, while the proposed list of members must be submitted to the office of the respective DCs through their respective area administrative officers.The Dimapur DC’s office said the selection process will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978, and the Nagaland Village and Area Councils Rules, 1979, while adhering to prevailing customary practices of the villages.All the concerned villages have been asked to ensure that the selection process is conducted strictly as per the prescribed rules and regulations. The proposed list of newly selected village council members have to be submitted on or before April 15 in the prescribed format.Villages are also required to enclose documents, including meeting proceedings and attendance records, along with certification by the head gaon burah (village head), confirming that the selection process was conducted in accordance with the customary practices and legal provisions.
