Thiruvananthapuram: N Jayan, who played a pivotal role in indigenous development of cryogenic propulsion technology, has been appointed director of Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro’s) Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).He led the team that developed the CE20 cryogenic engine, which powers GSLV Mk III (LVM3) launch vehicle, marking a significant milestone in India’s space programme.Jayan has held several key positions, including associate director of LPSC, project director of Cryogenic Stage project and project director of Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) project at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), said a statement.He has received several honours. In 2025, he was conferred the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar, the nation’s highest honour in the field of science.He earned his BTech in mechanical engineering from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) and Master of Engineering in aerospace engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, with gold medal.
