Mysuru: With the announcement of the draft reservation list for zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat constituencies, political activities by the Congress, JD(S) and BJP have intensified in Mysuru district. According to the draft list, Mysuru ZP has 46 seats and the TP has 163 seats. With rural development and panchayat raj minister Eshwara Khandre announcing plans to hold elections by the year-end, parties and aspirants have begun preparations for the long-pending rural body polls. The previous zilla panchayat’s tenure ended in Dec 2021.The announcement of the draft list has triggered renewed enthusiasm among probable contestants and aspirants seeking tickets from their respective parties to contest in the elections. Candidates whose constituencies have changed due to the reservation announcement have also started preparations to contest from a different segment.According to the draft reservation list for zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat local bodies announced by govt, the ZP constituencies in Mysuru decreased to 46 from 53, while the TP constituencies increased to 163 from 144 constituencies. In the previously published draft reservation list, Mysuru district had 46 ZP seats and 160 TP seats, following which, objections were also invited.Mysuru ZP had 46 seats two decades ago, but the number was later increased to 49, and then to 53 ZP seats in 2021. As per the latest draft notification, Mysuru, T Narasipura, Periyapatna and Hunsur taluks have six ZP seats in each taluk, while Nanjangud has nine ZP seats, KR Nagar has three, Saligrama and HD Kote have four seats each and Saragur taluk has two ZP seats.Reservation detailsOut of 46 zilla panchayat seats, 23 have been reserved for women, 10 for scheduled castes and 7 for scheduled tribe. Of the 163 TP seats, 84 are reserved for women.
