Patna: A woman was allegedly assaulted and dragged by her hair by a woman police personnel after she went to her husband’s house following a marital dispute in Kanti police station area of Muzaffarpur district on Saturday. The incident triggered outrage after a video, showing police personnel of a Dial-112 police team using force against the woman, went viral on social media. Senior police officials have ordered an inquiry into the incident.The woman, identified as Radha, a resident of Narsanda, had gone to the house of her husband, Chandan Kumar, after his family allegedly refused to allow her entry. Chandan was not at home, and she claimed she had been unable to contact him.According to Radha, she was sitting outside the house and protesting when a Dial-112 team reached the spot after being informed about the dispute. She alleged that instead of hearing her grievance, a woman police officer tried to take her into custody. When she resisted, the officer allegedly assaulted her, grabbed her by the hair, dragged her and threw her to the ground.The incident was recorded by a local resident on a phone. The video later surfaced on social media, following which Muzaffarpur SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra ordered an inquiry.SDPO (West) Suchitra Kumari said a video involving a Dial-112 team deployed in the Kanti police station area had come to the notice of the police department. “An inquiry is being conducted into the matter. If any police officer or personnel is found guilty, strict legal and departmental action will be taken against them,” she said.Radha said she first met Chandan through Instagram, and the two gradually developed a relationship before deciding to live together. However, she claimed her family later came to know about the relationship and arranged her marriage elsewhere. Despite the marriage, she continued to remain in touch with Chandan.About four months ago, Chandan allegedly called her to a hotel to meet him. According to Radha, her first husband and in-laws came to know about the meeting and reached the hotel, where they allegedly found the two together.The matter was subsequently taken before a village panchayat. Radha claimed that, based on the panchayat’s decision, she was later married to Chandan in the presence of her first husband and in-laws. Villagers also attended the marriage. Police said further investigation is underway.
