Ghaziabad: Police have lodged a case of murder in connection with the death of an 18-year-old girl who fell from the 16th floor of an Indirapuram housing society a day earlier.The girl and her father, who washes vehicles, had reached the society around 5.50am on Tuesday as per their usual routine. She had allegedly told her father she was going to the park while he went down to the basement and began his work. At around 5.56am, CCTV footage shows her falling from the 16th floor. Her parents alleged she was raped and murdered.DCP of Ghaziabad police commissionerate Dhawal Jaiswal said an autopsy was conducted, which revealed the cause of death was ante-mortem injuries or injuries sustained before death. He added that there was no sign of sexual assault.“But on the basis of the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against an unknown person under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS at the Indirapuram police station,” he said.On Wednesday, parents of the deceased and locals staged a protest against police in Indirapuram and demanded that an arrest be made in the case. They blocked the CISF Road, which connects Indirapuram to NH-9, for more than 45 minutes. The protest disrupted traffic on the highway and led to a severe snarl.The deceased’s family claimed they were dissatisfied with the probe. The girl’s father said he saw blood stains near the elevator of the 16th floor but police have deliberately not investigated it to save the accused.However, DCP Jaiswal said when the forensic team checked the marks, they found it to be paint.The elder sister of the deceased told TOI that cops arrived at their house as early as 6am on Wednesday and began pressuring them to perform the last rites. Initially, the family refused to do so. They said the autopsy was not conducted properly and its report was also questionable.The disagreement escalated into a scuffle between the family and police during the protest near the Kanawani culvert on CISF Road.As the commotion grew, DCP Jaiswal, ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Shrivastav, ACP Shalimar Garden Atul Kumar Singh and officers-in-charge from more than seven police stations arrived to deescalate the situation. After prolonged discussions, police showed the CCTV footage of the incident to the family, after which they agreed to perform the last rites.
