Panchkula: Police arrested a man accused of murdering a watchman in Sector 11 even as he was already wanted for allegedly killing his brother in Assam. After evading arrest by frequently changing his identity and hideouts across six states, the accused was arrested from Bengaluru, Karnataka. He has been remanded in two days of police custody for interrogation.DCP Srishti Gupta said the accused is Tepong Rabha alias Rakesh Rabha from Kokrajhar district in Assam. During investigation, police found that he was wanted in an alleged murder case involving his brother in Assam in March 2026. He escaped from the state later.On the morning of May 28, 2026, the body of Nepal native Dan Bahadur, a Nepal national working as watchman at an under construction house in Sector 11 was found on the rooftop of the building. The body bore grievous injuries. Investigation revealed that a labourer working at the site, Rakesh, had allegedly attacked the watchman repeatedly with an iron rod and a hammer before escaping. A murder case was registered.Police said the accused managed to evade arrest by constantly moving between Assam, Srinagar, Haryana, Delhi, Kerala and Karnataka. To avoid being tracked, he allegedly stole a mobile phone every four to five days, inserted a new SIM card and later sold the handset. He also worked as waiter in hotels and roadside eateries, using fake names and addresses and frequently changing his place of stay.Police said sustained technical surveillance and raids across multiple states eventually led investigators to Bengaluru. A Panchkula police team reached the city on June 30 and, after searching several locations, arrested the accused from a hotel. He was later brought to Panchkula after obtaining a transit remand from the local court.The accused was produced before a Panchkula court, which granted two days of police remand. Investigators will try to recover the victim’s mobile phone, believed to have been taken to Delhi, as well as the iron rod allegedly used in the murder.
