MUMBAI: Mumbai University‘s Management Council, at its meeting on Monday, decided to hand over the probe into the TYBCom paper leak case to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).While the police investigation is already underway, the university has now decided to seek a parallel CID inquiry into the matter.Speaking to TOI, a management council member said that higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil had already announced a CID probe into the matter during the monsoon session of the legislative council.“Although the issue was discussed at the previous management council meeting, a decision had then been deferred. The vice-chancellor will soon write to the CID,” said the member.Three TYBCom question papers had allegedly leaked during the university’s final examinations held in April this year.The leak allegedly originated from Mumbai University’s Centre for Distance and Open Education (CDOE).Following the incident, the BKC police registered an FIR and are investigating the case.The MC also discussed the issue of the sharp reduction in intake and the imposition of hefty fines on several law colleges.Since the affected colleges have challenged the university’s decision in court, the council decided to await the court’s directions before taking any further steps.
