MUMBAI: The Mazgaon metropolitan magistrate’s court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of three accused, including Khaliq Khan, father-in-law of cricketer Yusuf Pathan, in a road rage assault case.Defence advocate Dayanand Dere had argued that both parties have equally assaulted each other and a cross-FIR has also been registered against the complainant and others. He further submitted that Khaliq Khan is a senior citizen and has no role in the crime. He said the police have already seized CCTV footage and the alleged weapons, and the investigation is nearly complete, grounds on which bail should be granted. Sources said that the accused is likely to move sessions court seeking bail.The Byculla police on Monday arrested Khaliq Khan (66), his son, Umarshad, and a relative, Sohaib Khan.The incident occurred on Saturday night when the complainant, Yusuf Khan, was returning home in his car. He allegedly drove through a puddle, splashing water on Shoaib Pathan. Yusuf Khan stopped and apologised, but Shoaib, in a fit of rage, allegedly assaulted him and damaged his car’s windshield. Yusuf Khan then went home and informed his family, who insisted on filing a police complaint.Later, when Yusuf Khan and his family were stepping out of their building, Shoaib Pathan, along with Khaliq Khan and Umarshad, who is a builder, allegedly confronted them again and assaulted Yusuf Khan and his brother, Salman, using bamboo sticks.
