Mapusa: Mapusa police have cracked a major jewellery theft case with the arrest of a 44-year-old Mumbai resident, identified as Manish Manohar More. A resident of Andheri East, More is suspected to be a member of an inter-state gang from Raigad, Maharashtra.Police said More was arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft of three 22-carat hallmarked gold chains worth Rs 3 lakh from a jewellery shop at the Mapusa Municipal Market.According to police, the theft took place on April 23 between 4.13pm and 5pm at Shop No. 32, owned by Motilal Shabu Lotlikar. A group comprising two unidentified women and some men allegedly entered the shop and stole the gold chains, weighing a total of 32 grams and bearing distinct HUID numbers.Police said the breakthrough came after a video of a similar jewellery theft in Candolim went viral. The complainants recognised the suspects from the footage, enabling investigators to identify and arrest More.Police inspector Abhijit Naik is leading the investigation to trace the remaining suspects.
