Srinagar, Feb 15: Baramulla Writers Forum on Sunday organised a multilingual mushaira at town hall, Lagama, Uri which drew participation from prominent poets and writers representing diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Former J&K law minister Syed Basharat Bukhari attended the literary gathering as the chief guest.

Poets recited verses in Urdu, Pahari, Gojri and Kashmiri, earning warm appreciation from the audience. The participants included Mushtaq Kirmani, Showkat Habib (who also conducted the proceedings), Anzar Mohjo, Waqar Abdullah, Nazir Ibn Shehbaz, Aziz Dachnavi, Shabir Gilani, Tahir Rehman, Attaullah Mumtaz, Muzaffar Hussain, Sehran Sadiq Baghna, Mohammad Iqbal Sarhadi, Mehboob Baghna, Mir Sher Mohammad Parwaz, Sagar Nazir, Bashir Zogiari, Mohammad Rafi Naz, Abdul Ahad Alhai, Mohideen Narwai and Sadia Showkat, among others.

On the occasion, renowned broadcaster and former chief Editor of the All India Radio (AIR) Srinagar’s popular current affairs programme Sheherbeen, Maqsood Ahmad was honoured with an ‘Award of Honour’ by the Baramulla Writers Forum in recognition of his outstanding contribution to journalism and broadcasting.

General Secretary of the Baramulla Writers Forum, Mushtaq Kirmani, said the participation of poets from different linguistic traditions would help promote regional languages and literature.

He added that organising such literary programmes in Uri was aimed at showcasing the area’s pleasant winter climate and strengthening cultural bonds across regions.

He described the multilingual mushaira as an important cultural platform to foster literary excellence and reinforce Kashmir’s composite cultural ethos.
