MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Public Services Commission (MPSC) has postponed the State Services Main Examination-2026, which was scheduled to start from October 3.The MPSC said the revised date of the examination will be communicated separately.MPSC said the decision was taken after it got representations from many students, parents, student organizations as well as public representatives requesting that the exam be postponed.MPSC said in a statement, “Many student organizations/students have raised objections with MPSC regarding the evaluation of the State Services Main Examination 2025. Taking these objections into consideration, MPSC has decided to re-evaluate the answer sheets of the State Services Main Examination 2025. Therefore, the process of this examination is likely to be delayed.

“Similarly, a high-level committee constituted by the state govt to review all the examination systems prevalent in the state is expected to make recommendations regarding the ideal examination system soon after holding extensive discussions with many examinees and other stakeholders across the state and studying best practices,” the statemnt read further.“MPSC, after considering these issues, has decided to postpone the competitive examinations including the State Services Main Examination – 2026, Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination-2026 and Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination-2026 that were to be held from October 3. The revised date of the examination will be communicated separately,” the MPSC said.The state govt recently appointed the V Radha committee, a high-level reform panel to comprehensively review and overhaul MPSC examination and recruitment processes following widespread student protests and allegations of paper leaks.The committee has been examining stakeholder and student demands to potentially revert the MPSC exam format from the current descriptive pattern back to the multiple-choice question (objective) format.The panel received over 20,000 representations and emails from student aspirants, educators, and various groups across Maharashtra.Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said his party had demanded that governor Jishnu Dev Varma postpone the examination and that the request had been accepted.He hoped that the Governor would seek the resignation of the MPSC chairman.
