Bhilwara: Member of Parliament from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Harish Chandra Meena, Thursday demanded that the district headquarters be connected by a rail route.During the Budget session in Parliament, Meena said Tonk district remained among the backward regions of the country where railway lines had not reached even after Independence. He said, “I represent a district where people have not yet seen a train in their city, while the district residents have to travel to Kota and Jaipur for education, medical treatment, and other essential work. The central govt is giving slogans like ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas’ — in such a situation, the public has trusted the govt’s promises. Now, it is the govt’s responsibility to maintain the public’s trust and prepare a proposal to connect Tonk with Ajmer via Nasirabad through a railway line.” Meena said the lack of railway connectivity hampered the social and industrial development of Tonk district and urged the govt to pay attention to connecting Tonk district headquarters with railways so that residents could benefit from rail services.
