Kurukshetra: An eight-member Agriculture Development Committee of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kurukshetra, under Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, on Friday to study Haryana’s agricultural practices, particularly its crop residue management (CRM) model.The delegation, led by committee chairperson and MLA Thakurdas Nagvanshi, included MLAs Mahendra Ramsingh Yadav and Nilesh Uike, additional secretary Umesh Sharma, undersecretary Mahavir Singh, nodal officer Sameer Patel and Haryana Assembly protocol officer Sanjeev Sharma.The delegation was briefed on KVK’s technology demonstrations, farmer training, capacity building and extension activities.A detailed presentation focused on crop residue management, including in-situ and ex-situ methods, agricultural machinery, custom hiring centres and efforts to reduce stubble burning. The delegation was informed that stubble-burning cases in Kurukshetra declined sharply from 901 in 2018 to 12 in 2025, following coordinated efforts by KVK, Haryana govt and the Agriculture Department.The committee also studied direct seeding of rice (DSR) demonstrations and trials aimed at water conservation and sustainable agriculture, besides farmer training, awareness campaigns, and frontline demonstrations.Additional secretary Umesh Sharma sought details about crop diversification, DSR, water conservation, and climate-resilient farming. He appreciated Haryana’s subsidy schemes and machinery support for CRM, noting that Kurukshetra alone has more than 2,000 agricultural machines, compared with around 20–25 subsidised machines in Madhya Pradesh.Committee chairman Thakurdas Nagvanshi praised Haryana’s efforts, saying Madhya Pradesh could adopt similar measures to tackle stubble burning. He said the committee would share its findings with Madhya Pradesh govt and recommend suitable CRM initiatives.Shrikant Sandipam of Indian Oil Corporation Limited also briefed the delegation on crop-residue bio-decomposer technology and its field-level application.
