Jamshedpur: Traffic police in Jamshedpur have penalised 10 motorcycle owners for using modified silencers on their vehicles in a special drive which was launched on Thursday.The drive, rolled out to curb violations of the Motor Vehicles Act and to discipline motorists using modified silencers, comes at amid concerns over growing noise polling in the city.More than 10 bike owners were penalised on Thursday and Friday during checks conducted in different police station areas. “The drive will continue in the coming days, and random checks of two-wheelers will be carried out in rural and urban areas,” Traffic DSP Sriniraj Kumar said.Traffic police sources said the drive will be intensified in the coming weeks as the festive season approaches.Traffic police said several vehicle owners remove the standard silencers fitted by manufacturers. “Modified silencers can considerably increase the noise level of two-wheelers compared to those fitted with standard silencers. Sudden loud sounds from such vehicles can startle pedestrians and other motorists, causing inconvenience and potentially affecting road safety,” Kumar said.
