THANE: Police investigating motorcycle theft in Ulhasnagar arrested an accused in the theft case. When the police investigated, they found that the accused was involved in the murder of three people, one of which was a double murder case and another involved his father. In the double murder case, the accused was serving life imprisonment in Yerwada jail and escaped from there in December last year. The arrested accused was identified as Anil Patenia. According to Ulhasnagar police, a motorcycle was stolen in their jurisdiction on Wednesday.Thane police’s Zone 4 DCP Sachin Gore said that their team, engaged in investigating the motorcycle theft, caught the accused from the Khemani area in Ulhasnagar and also recovered the stolen motorcycle from him. Gore said that when Patenia was interrogated, he revealed that he was serving life imprisonment in Pune’s Yerwada jail in a murder case in Titwala police station, from where he escaped from the open jail on December 11 last year.During the investigation, police found that accused Patenia committed a double murder in 2016 within the limits of Titwala police station, where the accused, along with some other people, killed two individuals because they did not give him money to drink alcohol.Furthermore, during that time, Titwala police discovered that accused Patenia was actually a resident of Delhi and he killed his father when he was a minor. After coming out of the remand home, he moved from Delhi to live in the Titwala area, where he later committed this double murder for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Senior Police Inspector Vishnunath Tamhane of Ulhasnagar Police Station said that on Friday they produced the accused in court, where he was given two days of police custody. They are investigating whether the accused committed any other crime while escaping from jail.
