Patna: Two schoolgirls were injured after an unidentified biker attacked them with a blade while they were cycling to school in Baruraj police station area of Muzaffarpur district on Monday, police said.Upon receiving the information about the incident, police stepped up efforts to trace the accused. SDPO (West) Suchitra Kumari visited the spot on Tuesday to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. She then went to the houses of the two students and recorded their statements as well as those of their family members.According to the SDPO, the girls were cycling to school when an unidentified motorcycle-borne youth attacked them with a blade before fleeing from the spot. One girl sustained an injury near her arm, while the other was injured around her shoulder, she said.The injured students were taken to a primary health centre (PHC) with police assistance. Doctors provided them with treatment and said they were out of danger. They were subsequently discharged and allowed to return home, police said.The SDPO said a case was registered on Monday against the unidentified attacker on the basis of complaints lodged by the families. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the suspect.Technical evidence is also being analysed to track the accused, police said, adding that efforts were underway to arrest him.The SDPO clarified that reports alleging that the girls had been molested were not supported by their statements. She also said legal notices would be issued to those allegedly responsible for spreading false information.
