Gurgaon: Persistent rain through Wednesday morning threw traffic out of gear across the city, with long queues of vehicles on roads during rush hours. While overnight showers brought relief from the heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast active monsoon conditions over Haryana till at least July 28 and issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall later this week.According to the district administration’s tehsil and sub-tehsil-wise rainfall report for the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Wednesday, Farukhnagar recorded the highest rainfall in the district at 39 mm, followed by Sohna (16 mm), Gurgaon and Pataudi (15 mm each), Manesar and Badshapur (14 mm each), Kadipur and Harsaru (13 mm each), and Wazirabad (2 mm).Rain continued well past 9 am, coinciding with peak office hours. Traffic crawled on NH-8, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, and several other arterial roads as waterlogged stretches and reduced visibility slowed movement.IMD recorded Gurgaon’s maximum temperature at 31.4°C and the minimum at 25°C. The lower daytime temperature provided relief from the recent spell of heat, though humidity remained high.The weather office said the southwest monsoon is likely to remain active over Haryana over the next several days. While light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected between July 23 and 26, rainfall activity is likely to intensify on July 27 and 28, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across Haryana, including the NCR region.For Gurgaon, the forecast indicates generally cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorms through the week. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 31°C and 33°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay between 24°C and 26°C, keeping daytime conditions relatively pleasant but humid.The continuing wet spell comes after widespread rainfall across Haryana over the past 24 hours. According to the IMD, the state’s average maximum temperature remained close to normal despite rising by 1.7°C from the previous day, while the average minimum temperature also stayed near normal.The forecast suggests the current showers are part of a broader active monsoon phase rather than an isolated weather event. This could improve seasonal rainfall but also increase the risk of urban flooding and traffic disruption in Gurgaon, where even moderate rainfall often leads to waterlogging at several vulnerable locations.With more rain expected over the weekend, civic agencies are expected to remain on alert. Authorities have advised residents to avoid waterlogged roads, drive cautiously during thunderstorms, and factor in extra travel time as intermittent showers are likely to affect traffic over the next few days.
