Mapusa: Tensions flared at the Morjim gram sabha on Sunday as residents protested the dumping of garbage from neighbouring Mandrem into the Morjim-Tembwada area.Villager Deepak Shetgaonkar insisted that Mandrem manage its own waste within its jurisdiction. Sarpanch Vilas Morje assured that the panchayat would summon the waste management contractor concerned for a formal inquiry. The meeting saw aggressive deliberations on a spectrum of civic failures. Residents Tukaram Shetgaonkar and Govind Poke pressed the administration on the accountability of previous resolutions, questioning whether gram sabha decisions actually translate into executive action. While the panchayat secretary maintained that all resolutions are forwarded to relevant departments with documented receipts, the villagers remained sceptical of the ground-level impact.Locals of Mardiwada demanded the urgent construction of a sewerage system to prevent rainwater from inundating homes. Similar concerns were raised regarding the incomplete works at the Khind stream and the faulty sluice gates. Morje assured a joint inspection with water resources department officials to address these issues before the monsoon arrives. The gram sabha witnessed heated exchanges over road encroachments by stall owners despite recent widening and asphalting of the stretch. Residents of Gawdewada demanded the installation of speed bumps on the main road to curb rising traffic risks.
