Gurgaon: After isolated showers brought waterlogging to parts of the city on Wednesday, more widespread rainfall on Thursday and Friday has been forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at many places across the district.According to IMD’s Chandigarh centre, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places in the city on Sept 3 and 4. The department has also forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Haryana on both days, raising the possibility of intense showers in some pockets.The city recorded 1.4 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday, while the minimum temperature was 26.2 degrees Celsius. The city’s maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 32 degrees Celsius, around 1.7 degrees Celsius below normal.The uneven distribution of rain was evident across Haryana on Wednesday. While Gurgaon recorded no additional rainfall at its main station between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, several other districts received significant showers. Ambala recorded 48 mm, Faridabad 30 mm, Palwal 18 mm and Rohtak 10 mm during this period.IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates that rainfall activity will remain elevated through Thursday and Friday. On Thursday and Friday, rain is expected at many places in the city, compared with only a few places on Wednesday. Rainfall is then expected to become less widespread, with showers likely at a few places on Saturday and Sunday.The weather department said the monsoon trough currently passes through Bhatinda, Rohtak, Hardoi and Kanpur and extends eastwards. A well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas is also influencing weather conditions over the region.With the forecast indicating more widespread rain over the next two days, areas that witnessed waterlogging on Wednesday could see renewed problems if the city receives intense showers in short spells.IMD has forecast heavy rain at isolated places from Sept 2 to 5, making Thursday and Friday the key days to watch for further rainfall activity in Gurgaon.
