Prayagraj: The southwest monsoon remained active over Prayagraj on Sunday, bringing widespread cloud cover and intermittent rain across the district for the second consecutive day. While the showers provided relief from heat and humidity, they also triggered waterlogging and power disruptions in several parts of the city.Unlike the scattered showers witnessed over the past few weeks, rain was reported from most parts of the district, though its intensity varied considerably from one locality to another. Areas including Civil Lines, Georgetown, Kareli, Rajrooppur, Lukerganj, Jhunsi, Sulem Sarai, Naini and several trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna villages received spells of rain at different intervals throughout the day.While many localities experienced light to moderate showers, others witnessed heavy rainfall, leading to waterlogging along roadsides, intersections and low-lying areas. The showers also slowed traffic at several places as commuters navigated through inundated stretches.The persistent cloud cover and rainfall brought a noticeable improvement in weather conditions, replacing the prolonged humid and sultry weather with cooler temperatures and pleasant breezes. The maximum temperature settled at 34.6°C, while the minimum was recorded at 27.4°C. Relative humidity remained high, ranging between 83% and 97%.However, the active monsoon also exposed recurring civic issues. Residents from several neighbourhoods reported power tripping, intermittent outages and low-voltage supply during and after the rain, disrupting household routines and business activities. In many areas, electricity fluctuations continued even after the showers had subsided.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over eastern Uttar Pradesh, with Prayagraj expected to receive more spells of rain and overcast skies over the coming days, keeping temperatures below the levels recorded during the recent dry spell.
