Chennai|Bengaluru: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated that the central government was committed to an ‘India First’ approach amid heightened tensions in West Asia.

“West Asia conflict has affected world’s energy supply chain, we believe in India First ideology,” he said while addressing a rally in Trichy, in poll-bound Tamil Nadu.

He cautioned people not to fall prey to misinformation and assured that the government was putting the interests of Indians above all else.

Modi went on to add that the central government was fully committed to the people of Tamil Nadu and their welfare as he believed that the development of Tamil Nadu means the development of India.

“We are working day and night (for the welfare of the people), and we will continue to do so,” Modi said after inaugurating some completed projects and laying the foundation for new projects. They include energy, petroleum and natural gas, road transport and highways, railways and rural development projects.

Later in the evening, at a public meeting in Trichy, he said that the last time he was in Trichy it was for a program related to projects worth nearly ₹20,000 crores.
“Today, I am coming from a program involving projects worth ₹5600 crores,” he said. “We are making big investments in the future of Tamil Nadu. These projects cover several important sectors, including clean energy, manufacturing, highways, railways and rural roads. They bring thousands of new jobs for the youth.”Modi said that in 2021, the people of Tamil Nadu brought the DMK to power and that instead of taking it as a responsibility, they ‘betrayed the mandate.’

“In DMK rule, everything starts and ends with one family,” he said. “Ministers may change, MLAs may change but power remains only with one dynasty. DMK is infamous for their corruption model.”

He alleged that the DMK has delayed schemes to build houses for the poor because they are afraid that people will credit the centre for the same.
