Mandya: Union minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday announced that a modern sports complex will be constructed under the Khelo India scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore.Initially, 1.5 acres within the agricultural university premises at VC Farm had been identified for the project, with plans to expand the facility to 5 acres in the future. The proposed complex aims to encourage rural youth to participate in athletics and other sporting activities.The foundation stone for the project will be laid on March 14 during a programme that will also include the distribution of tricycles to persons with disabilities.Kumaraswamy also revealed plans to set up an automotive research and industrial facility of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in Mandya, with a projected investment of around Rs 1,000 crore. He said the initiative would enhance employment opportunities and strengthen the district’s industrial base.The minister noted that discussions with nearly 50 industrialists had already been held to explore investment prospects in the region.Kumaraswamy criticised the 17th budget presented by chief minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that it lacked new initiatives and relied heavily on previously announced projects.During his visit, the minister also met the parents of two-year-old Sai Chirag from Shivara village, who is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare and serious genetic condition. The child’s parents, Chethan and Bhargavi, appealed for financial assistance for the expensive treatment. Moved by their plea, Kumaraswamy assured them that he would seek support through the PMs relief fund.
