Prayagraj: To move UP Board Class 11 and 12 students beyond rote learning and develop their understanding, reasoning and analytical abilities, State Institute of Education has prepared a collection of model question papers in line with the objectives of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Assessment Centre, PARAKH.State Institute of Education principal, Rajendra Pratap presented a copy of the question-paper collection to UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh. The initiative is aimed at encouraging students to answer questions through understanding, analysis and critical thinking rather than simply reproducing memorised content.Under the initiative, guidelines titled ‘Directions for Balanced Question Paper Construction in the Perspective of NEP-2020 and PARAKH’ are prepared for History, Civics, Geography and Economics for Classes 11 and 12 by Samagra Shiksha Uttar Pradesh. The objective is to ensure a comprehensive, multidimensional and competency-based assessment of students.The guidelines seek to move question papers beyond factual and memory-based questions and assess conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, application, problem-solving, logical expression and higher-order thinking skills. For the first time, State Institute of Education also provided guidance to question setters on framing questions that allow students to understand concepts, reason logically, analyse evidence and sources, compare different perspectives and present their views with supporting arguments.Meanwhile, the evaluation of UP Board’s 2026 High School and Intermediate compartment examination answer sheets has been completed. UP Board secretary said the board conducted online evaluation of answer sheets for the first time as a pilot exercise. Examiners were trained to ensure that the new system could be implemented smoothly.The answer sheets were scanned and sent for online evaluation, with marks awarded digitally by examiners. The compartment examinations were conducted on July 28 at 92 centres. With the evaluation process now complete, preparations for compiling the results have been expedited. The results are expected to be declared soon, said Singh.
