Bengaluru: Another security breach has come to light at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, with the authorities recovering a mobile phone, three sim cards, and cash from the prison premises. Superintendent BM Kotresh has filed two complaints with Parappana Agrahara police.A surprise inspection led to the recoveries on Sept 29 between 1pm and 2pm in Tower-2, C-Barrack, Room No. 4, where they found a keypad mobile phone without a sim card inside the bag of convict prisoner Malatesha. They also found three sim cards concealed inside a cap belonging to convict Mohammed Nawaz in room 5 in the same barrack.Rs 8,500 cash in kitchen toiletIn another inspection of room 7 on Sept 28 between 11am and 1.15pm, officials found Rs 8,500 in cash inside a bag kept in the toilet.The complaint seeks action against those who allegedly smuggled the cash into the prison, those who may have aided or abetted the act, and those who used the prohibited items within the prison. Two separate cases have been registered under Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act.During previous raids, a smartphone was found in the cell of former MP Prajwal Revanna.‘Hunger strike’ behind bars? Cops register case over fake claims about Puneeth KerehalliA social media storm over claims that activist Puneeth Kerehalli was on a hunger strike inside Bengaluru Central Prison has triggered a probe after police verified with prison authorities, who denied the allegation.Basavanagudi police registered a suo motu case on Sept 29, stating the social media campaign had the potential to create public-order issues and provoke unrest. Several social media posts claimed Kerehalli had gone on a hunger strike for 12 days for justice and urged people to blame the state govt, home minister Priyank Kharge, and DCP (South) Kona Vamsi Krishna if anything happened to him. Police said the posts, circulated by multiple Facebook and Instagram accounts, were noticed by the social media wing staff on Sept 23. Following the online buzz for days, police sought verification from prison officials. They reported that Kerehalli was not on a hunger strike and was consuming his regular food.Several accounts and handles have been named in the FIR and efforts are on to identify the individuals behind the posts. Kerehalli was arrested, following a clash during an Eid-Milad procession on Aug 26.
