Ghaziabad: UP Cancer Care Project has been launched in Ghaziabad to improve early detection of cervical, oral and breast cancers. A mobile screening van will travel across 40 identified locations in the district — including Loni, Muradnagar and Bhojpur — over six months until Sept, aiming to conduct around 40,000 tests. The initiative, run by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation in coordination with the Ghaziabad health department, targets residents in semi-urban and rural areas.Chief medical officer Dr R K Gupta inaugurated the initiative at Hindi Bhawan in Lohiya Nagar, flagging off the mobile unit. Ghaziabad is the first district where the programme is being implemented, with plans to expand to Varanasi, Chandauli and Mirzapur in later phases, officials said.Starting from April 16, camps will be set up for 5-6 days at each block at the selected locations across the district until Sept.“This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening preventive healthcare in the district. By taking screening services directly to people’s doorsteps, especially in underserved and rural areas, we aim to ensure early detection of cervical, oral and breast cancers, which can drastically improve treatment outcomes. The deployment of a state-of-the-art mobile medical unit will help bridge critical gaps in access to diagnostics. This programme reflects our commitment to reducing the cancer burden through timely intervention, awareness and community participation, and we are confident it will create a lasting impact on public health indicators in Ghaziabad,” the CMO said.Around 200-250 people, including doctors, paramedical staff and ASHA workers, attended the launch event. Health officials said community outreach and awareness will be key components of the campaign.
