Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) has reaffirmed Mizo nationalism as its enduring guiding principle and urged young people to strengthen the community through education and nation-building. MNF’s official website identifies it as the state’s opposition party.Addressing the party’s Chhung Inkhawm at Mizo Hnam Run on Friday, MNF Political Affairs Committee member and Legal Board chairperson C Lalramzauva said the party had both a constitutional objective and an “unwritten goal,” which he described as being, in many ways, more important.He said MNF remained committed to securing the highest possible degree of freedom and progress for the Mizo people, with its unwritten aspirations permanently etched in the minds of party members.

“As we work towards our constitutional objectives, we must also continue striving for the aspirations that are not written on paper but remain firmly rooted in our hearts. Whether in govt or in the opposition, we must continue working tirelessly. Our determination does not arise from reacting to the actions of any particular govt but from our clear vision for our land. That is why MNF constantly renews and strengthens itself,” the senior advocate said.Lalramzauva said Mizo nationalism remained deeply rooted in the community’s consciousness. Although Mizoram is an Indian state, he said Mizos continued to view themselves as a distinct nation in terms of identity and history.Recalling the armed struggle preceding the 1986 Mizo Peace Accord, he said earlier generations made immense sacrifices in pursuit of their aspirations. The accord ended the insurgency and brought MNF into electoral politics after it renounced secession and violence.Lalramzauva said Mizoram had made significant progress since the accord. While many young people born after 1986 had not experienced the hardships endured by earlier generations, he praised their commitment to serving the state and its people.He urged the younger generation to deepen its understanding of Mizo nationalism and use education, knowledge and professional skills to build on the foundations laid by earlier leaders.Lalramzauva also called upon successive govts to strengthen the education sector with sincerity and urged the present govt to accelerate development instead of allowing it to stagnate.He asked the govt to address the concerns of ad hoc grant-in-aid schools and continue recruiting teachers and upgrading educational institutions.“I urge the govt to fulfil the expectations of those serving in these schools,” he said.Calling on Mizo youth to pursue academic excellence, Lalramzauva said: “Our nationalism should inspire us to become better educated and more capable. That is one of the greatest services our youth can render to the land and the Mizo people.”He also urged govt employees, professionals, entrepreneurs and sportspersons to devote themselves more wholeheartedly to the welfare of Mizoram and its people.“A strong sense of national identity, coupled with excellence in our respective fields, is the greatest path for our community to stand alongside others with confidence,” he said.
