Banihal, August 11: National Conference leader and MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, today laid the foundation stone of a Rs 34.41 lakh Panchayat Ghar at Lamber village, describing the project as an important step towards strengthening grassroots governance and improving delivery of public services in the remote area.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaheen said that the Panchayat Ghar would provide a dedicated institutional space for local governance and help bring government services and development-related mechanisms closer to the people. He stressed that strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions is essential for ensuring participatory development and addressing the needs of rural communities effectively.
He said that development of remote and underserved areas remains a priority and that every effort would be made to ensure timely completion of the project and other ongoing works in the constituency.
Later, Shaheen visited Ahma village in Tehsil Khari and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Mohd Iqbal, who passed away recently. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and courage and strength for the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Shaheen also convened a meeting with National Conference functionaries of Block Khari, during which he took detailed feedback on issues confronting people in different areas. He listened to the concerns raised by party workers and discussed measures for their timely redressal with the concerned authorities.
He reiterated that the National Conference remains committed to maintaining a strong grassroots connect and working continuously for the welfare and development of the people.
Meanwhile, a deputation of the Cricket Association Banihal called on Shaheen and projected various demands concerning the improvement and upgradation of Sports Stadium Banihal. The deputation sought better facilities and infrastructure to promote sports activities and provide young players with improved opportunities.
Shaheen assured the delegation that their genuine demands would be taken up on priority with the concerned authorities and pursued for early resolution. He said that development of sports infrastructure and providing better facilities to local youth would remain an important component of his development agenda.
